16-Apr-2007   -   Awards Ceremony & Online Voting
For those of you who were at Salt Village you will know that at 7.00p.m. last Saturday night the heavens opened up and poured down upon us for about ten minutes; we had a crowd of about 500 and more on the way - the Salt Bar was packed with families finishing their meals, about to join the gathered crowd, friends of mine were in cars close to arrival for the big night and when the rain came they turned away.   The cancellation announcement had to be made because the screen operators could not have their equipment exposed to a downpour but.... the rain stopped.   Around 100 people stayed including the three Titans, Mark Minichiello, Richard Mothers & Josh Graham, so we decided to go ahead with a few films and the presentation of the award for Sponsor's Choice: Best Short Film from a High School contestant - in view of the fact this award was won by Team Tweed who had interviewed the Titans as part of their film, the Titans made the presentation, 3 memberships to Fitness Attitude Health Club and a $500 gift voucher to purchase sports clothing from Mind Over Body Fitness Apparel.   The crowd were enjoying themselves so much we just went ahead and played - almost all - of the films and they looked great.   It was a pretty awesome experience for student filmmakers to see their efforts on the big screen but we did not go ahead with the rest of the awards.   We considered that the contestants deserved more than a depleted crowd to congratulate them and our sponsors deserved a big round of appreciation too because each and every one of them has really thrown a great deal of support and encouragement behind this initiative.   So we will have another occasion... very soon! (Aiming for a time around May 12??) Keep checking this space - we are trying to get an indoor venue.   You will be required to have a free ticket.   Send a request to get on the list for this limited place event.   We will screen the finalist films again.   Online voting will not begin until after this event.   Sorry to those who are logging on to view and vote - you will have to wait a while longer.   A big thank you to all our contestants, our sponsors and to all of you who came out to support the inaugural Sandscripts: Tales on the Tweed short film event.   Great effort!
